A new bacterium has been discovered deep (1.74miles) in the Mponeng mine (Gold mine.)  The creature has been found to need only water, hydrogen, and sulphate to survive.  Even more interesting is that it is the only creature to be found in its unique ecosystem.  Scientists are using this bacteria as an example of what extraterrestial life may be like if we ever find it. (Lacking oxygen, the lifeform will use other chemicals for energy. )  Quite the survivor no? XD

While many people are all too aware of the female body-image problem, there are men who too feel compelled to achieve the “perfect” body.  A doctor in the UK, Dr. Morgan, has been seeing a rising number of men with eating disorders that typical are thought to afflice girls more so: Anornexia.

It’s a different way that men are doing this, at least they way we are usually taught or here:

“There are men who have problems with compulsive exercise and excessive bodybuilding who have an illness, but we haven’t defined them. Our definitions of illness have been focused on women, rather than men.” -Dr. Morgan

While it’s always been there, it seems the pressure to be pretty and thin is beginning to spread to both genders.

Some proposals to help solve this problem that I’ve heard: (Not in article)

1. Educating parents about the disorders and giving them the necessary information on how to help a child get a healthy body image.

2. School recieving more funding for educating students

3. Imposing laws on the things that may cause this (Smut-magazines and such)

Maybe a combo of all 3 might help, but I, personally, think it’d be best to educated the parent and child together so they can both understand the disorder.

With the LHC coming on Wednesday, it’s has some people worried that a black hole will destroy the Earth.  This article is just a re-cap on the current end of world thoughts/ideas:

1. Christian view of Jesus coming back

2. Climate Change

3. Man’s fault (Nuke war)

4. Earth being eaten by the Sun

and some others, such as the 2012 prediction from the Mayas.  I have my bet on the 2036 asteriod. =P

Predictions to the end come and go~  Nothing will ever stop them really, people have a fascination for that kind of stuff.  It doesn’t matter what age it is. XD

Silence

4′ 33″

My music professor talked about this piece in class.  He even gave a little performance. XD  It’s silent in the sense that no man-made instrument is being played in this piece.  The audience, and everything in ear-shot is what “composes” the piece in essence.

First post of the month and it’s on smelly lap-tops. XD

New Fragrance from ASUS, lap-tops that smell basically. XD  4 smells: Floral Blossom, Musky Black, Morning Dew, and Aqua Ocean

It says that smell will go away depending on how much you use the computer.  I’m not too sure if I’d want a lap-top that smelled like a perfume or musky.  Don’t I get enough of that in real life? XD

I’m a day early, or a day late these days when it comes to news. XD

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7585182.stm

Russia recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia’s independence from Georgia.  Georgia understandably has cut some diplomatic relations with Russia.  Some have used Kosovo’s name to show that they deserve independence from their motherland.  Russia may try to have other countries recognize the 2 rebel areas to help promote it’s stance on Georgia.  I don’t see China doing that, as it would hurt their relations with Europe and the USA. :/

It bound to be diplomatically ugly none the less.

Unrecognized “States?”

I’m too tired to think critically about the economy today. XD  I’ll do it tomorrow~

So on to something else!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7580386.stm

Russia’s Federation Council and State Duma (Parliament) voted 130-0 for President Medvedev to recognize the break-away regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.  Not good for international relations with Europe and USA.

“The Federation Council speaker, Sergei Mironov, said both Abkhazia and South Ossetia had all the necessary attributes of independent states.”

^ That will be the main topic of the post.  What makes an area with a population have the attributes of a state?

Is it fighting (such as a war) that makes a state what it is?  Is it history or something else?  No representation without taxation?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unrecognized_countries

Does Taiwan deserve full recongition as seperate from China?  It functions just like an “independent” state.  If that means: having control over its territory, can collect taxes, has some recoginition, and can maintain itself for the most part.

What about Somaliland?  It’s not recongized by anyone.  Yet it functions seperately from Somalia.  It’s doing a good job seeing it’s circumstances, less violence has been reported in Somaliland than elsewhere in Greater Somalia.

If Russia does decide to recogonize Georgia’s two seperatist regions, they’d be in a diplomatic situation similar to North Cyprus.  Turkey is the only country to recongize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.  And Turkey doesn’t recongize Cyprus itself.  So Russia may revoke their recongition of Georgia in favor of it’s two problem areas. :/

I finally got around to listening to this old French folk song, but not all of it. XD

It’s considered to be the first recorded human voice in history.  It was recorded over 140 years ago in 1860.

Listening it can raise chills up your spine, but it’s audible of what’s spoken:

Amazing isn’t it?

Watching the noon-ish stock market, with Bernanke on the Hill, thinking about what’s in store for the next years.  That got my brain jogging and I remembered something I saw on the news last year.

KEO, a time capsule in the form of a satellite that’s supposed to be launched in ‘09 or ‘10.  It’ll be in orbit for 500 centuries before it’s supposed to come back to Earth.  Apparently the deadline for having your message in the satellite is December 31st, 2008; not much time left.

I haven’t put a message in, I might later on.
