City planning, in the Jungle

Down there in the Amazon, an expedition has found evidence of an Urban culture from about 1,500 years ago. They consisted of a village centered on a plaza, with satellite villages surrounded the main village. The level of sophistication isn’t as advanced as the Maya for example. The towns may have disappeared gradually as the Europeans came through.
Quite interesting, I wonder if it can be utilized as for heavy city planning in the Amazon?
