So starts the Anime series Texhnolyze.  Dark, violent, gore, bloody, depressing, strange.  Bright colors are lacking in the underground setting of Lux (Light.)  Mankind has truly fallen, destitute and degrading.  Factions are tearing the city apart, law and order are a joke, and all hope falls upon the Texholyzation of mankind as an evolutionary escape.

Ichise is the main character of this show, a prize fighter.  Closed and reserved, rarely speaks, and has a tendency to explode. After being a bit hostile towards his prize after a fight, is left struggling for his life.  Right arm and leg gone, chopped off by a member of the Organo (Faction.)  He is soon texhnolyzed by Doc who basically uses him as a guinea pig.  Now with texhnolyzed limbs, how will he adapt?

Ran is to me creepy.  A Seer from a village (Gabe), she sees Lux’s future.  And helps Ichise throughout the series, even giving him a reading of his future(*Hint*Hint.)

As the episodes progress, it becomes certain that Lux is heading for….well Hell.  And we get to see how Ichise will react to all this and if he finds a purpose in his life before it all ends.  It’s hard to put a definite play-by-play plot out.  But it’s very important to watch this from beginning to end, no skipping episodes.  You’ll get really confused fast.  A good site to read over here:

I’m not going to get into the theatrics of this show, mainly because theories abound about the episodes in general.  I’ve got my own quirky ideas about the whole thing already.  BUT:

#1- This came out in 2003; so Death Note, Proxy, etc…..this series didn’t copy you. Sorry but true.

#2- This is generally described as cyberpunk, not future.

Not for children, people who are depressed, those who can’t stand the sight of any blood, and it has “mature” themes.  This was on Encore Action, but it seems to have been taken off. Episodes are called Rouge and So here it is on Veoh:

My opinion:  Amazingly done, it is strange at first but it grows on you.  The first episode was boring (LACK of dialouge) but it gets better with each episode.  The art is wonderful, the characters well-done, and I’d recommend this series.
